My child recently started school and his preschool backpack was not big enough for the new school year. So far this backpack has been great and is nice quality. It has plenty of room and fits my 5 year old great! My only complaint is that I wish it had a few more pockets on the inside of the main compartment to better organize my child's belongings.I asked my niece what kind of backpack she wanted. She named every color in every design, but no specific theme. I came upon this backpack and knew, THIS IS IT!!! The backpack arrived fast, and she was absolutely excited when it arrived and she had the biggest smile I've ever seen. Her first words when she unwrapped it was "I LOVE IT!!!!' that said it all.I want to admit this bag is really cute and made really well, however in person my son decided the colors were a little bit more girly than he expected. To be fair, this is a bag that is made for boys and girls, it clearly can go either way and fit either style. This is not the fault of the bag, it's actually a pretty great backpack and feels like it would hold up well. But if your child is sensitive to those kinds of things, it is something to keep in mind.It’s nice but it doesn’t glow so bright at night. My son still like it thoI had previously purchased the Highlights pencil case and was impressed with the quality and designs of it so when I saw they had matching backpacks I decided to try it as well. Happy I did!This backpack is the same great quality and durability that the pencil cases have. I got the "Rainbow Unicorn" variant for the pencil case but for the backpack I got the "Do Great Things Tie-Dye" because I thought the rainbow unicorn pattern looked too busy for the backpack. Happy I went with the blue tie-dye backpack because it looks awesome in person!This backpack has two mesh water bottle pockets on the outside and a handy laptop/tech pocket on the inside so maybe your kid can keep their electronics relatively safely stored. It also comes with stickers which I thought was strange at first because normally when you stick stickers to something fabric like a backpack they fall off. However, these are special stickers that will stay on "rain or shine" which is pretty neat. My kids love sticking stickers on everything so they were thrilled when they saw the could use these on their backpacks.Overall happy with this purchase and would buy again. The straps are comfy and the backpack feels like it could last several seasons which I would expect it to.As far as design goes, this is a fairly by-the-book backpack but it's worth mentioning a few small tweaks that set it apart. The shoulder straps curve out, instead of being straight down. This makes it more comfortable to wear and distribute weight better. The green strip down the front has 4 loops that can be used to clip accessories or ornaments on.Another feature not mentioned in the description is the fact that the shoulder straps have a grey reflective strip on them. This is for added safety, giving higher night-time visibility to motorists when light shines on the patches.Build quality and materials are both top-notch. The backpack is relatively heavy and constructed from a heavy duty synthetic fabric (likely rip-stop nylon). I expect it to last at least 3-4 years.Cleaning should be easy with some soap and a scrub brush. The outer shell is water-repellent, but not water-proof. The inner lining provides waterproofing.The only thing I don't care for is the glow in the dark aspect. I was expecting the green trim to glow, but it's just tiny speckles (stars). They are faint and not at all impressive.The backpack has 19 hidden objects scattered about (oil can, piece of toast, button, etc), but I was very confused by the answer key on the printed tag. The framing of the picture on the tag doesn't match the position of the backpack -- everything is shifted over. It took me a few minutes to realize that the hidden items are shown colored in as BROWN/ORANGE. A single line of text to explain this would've helped!This is a nice, big backpack. It is durable and well made of thick material. My daughter loves dinosaurs and the fact that it glows in the dark. The straps are adjustable, as well.
